What Is a Genesee County Court Docket
A docket is the chronological event list for a case. In Michigan court files, it is called the Register of Actions. Each line is a date-stamped event: a complaint filed, a motion filed, a hearing scheduled, an order entered, a sentence imposed, an adjournment requested, or a judgment paid. Together those lines tell the story of a Genesee County court case from filing to disposition. The docket is not the file itself. The file holds the actual pleadings, exhibits, and orders. The docket points at them.
Each Genesee court keeps its own docket. The 7th Circuit Court runs one for felony, civil, family, and juvenile cases. The 67th District Court runs separate dockets for its city-served divisions in Flint, Burton, Davison, Fenton, Flushing, Grand Blanc, and Mt. Morris. The Probate Court keeps its own for estates, guardianships, conservatorships, and mental-health treatment matters. A case search in MiCOURT returns the docket for one case at a time. A judge schedule page lists the day's docket for one judge in one courtroom.
How to Find Genesee County Dockets Online
The main online tool is MiCOURT Case Search, the State Court Administrative Office's public portal. MiCOURT uses three different URLs for the three Genesee courts. Open the right URL, then search by case or party to get to the Register of Actions. For the day's calendar by judge, the 7th Circuit Court publishes a court schedule page linking each judge to their docket.
- Open the right MiCOURT URL. C07 for the 7th Circuit Court, D67 for the 67th District Court, or P25 for the Probate Court.
- Search by case number for the cleanest hit, or by last and first name with date of birth where available.
- Open the case detail and scroll to the Register of Actions section to see the docket history.
- For pre-07/31/2014 District Court dockets, switch to the 67th District Court records request process under the Automatic Clean Slate rule.
- For a courtroom-level docket, open the Circuit Court schedule page and pick the right judge.
Sample Genesee County Docket Entry
Each docket line carries a fixed set of fields. The fields below come straight from the public MiCOURT Register of Actions used for Genesee County cases. They describe the event, not the underlying document.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Event Date | Date the event was logged by the court clerk. |
| Event Type | Motion, hearing, order, judgment, adjournment, dismissal, sentence, plea, or payment. |
| Filing Party | Plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, prosecutor, or court. |
| Hearing Date / Time | For scheduled events, the date and time the matter will be heard. |
| Courtroom / Judge | Courtroom number or judge name where the event is heard. |
| Document Reference | Title of the underlying pleading, motion, or order on file. |
| Outcome / Status | Granted, denied, adjourned, taken under advisement, withdrawn, dismissed, or set aside. |
The image below shows the Probate Court MiCOURT search page, which is the source for Genesee County Probate dockets.
Probate dockets follow the same field structure but include estate, guardianship, and conservatorship event types in addition to standard motion and order entries.
Courts That Publish Dockets in Genesee County
All three Genesee trial courts publish dockets through MiCOURT. The Circuit Court also publishes judge-level schedules through its own site. The District Court points users to MiCOURT and to its records request process. The Probate Court publishes case-level docket data through P25.
- 7th Judicial Circuit Court (C07) - Felony, civil over the district limit, divorce, family, juvenile, PPO. The court's court schedule lists each judge.
- 67th District Court (D67) - Misdemeanors, traffic, civil infractions, landlord-tenant, small claims, and preliminary felony. Dockets for pre-07/31/2014 cases need a written request.
- Genesee County Probate Court (P25) - Estate, guardianship, conservatorship, and mental-health dockets through the Probate Records Office.
- U.S. District Court (Eastern District of Michigan) - Federal dockets sit in PACER and CM/ECF, not MiCOURT.
Docket vs. Full Case Record
The docket and the file are two different things. A docket tracks events. A case file holds the underlying documents. MiCOURT generally gives the public the docket, not the documents. Full pleadings, exhibits, sentencing memos, and orders usually require a clerk-office request or registered access through MiFILE.
| Docket (Register of Actions) | Full Case File | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | Chronological list of events | Pleadings, motions, exhibits, orders |
| Access | MiCOURT public portal, free | Records office request, often with fee |
| Use | Track case progress, next hearing, status | Legal review, evidence, certified copies |
| Restrictions | Sealed events may show as restricted | Juvenile, adoption, mental-health files closed |
How to Read a Genesee County Court Docket
Most docket abbreviations are short by design. ARR or ARRGN means arraignment. PE means preliminary examination. PE WAVD means the defendant waived the preliminary exam, so the case skipped that hearing on its way to bindover. BIND means bound over to the 7th Circuit Court. JOS or J/SENT means judgment of sentence. ADJ means adjourned. DISP marks disposition. OR signals release on personal recognizance. WD or DISM W/PREJ flags a dismissal, with prejudice indicating the case cannot be refiled.
Civil dockets use different shorthand. MOT marks motion. ORD marks order. JUD marks judgment. GARN flags a garnishment writ or payment. Probate dockets add LOA for letters of authority, INV for inventory, ACCT for an accounting, and FEM or FCM for fiduciary or final closing-matters lines. Each Genesee court keeps a similar pattern, but exact codes vary by judge.
Note: A docket can show a "set aside" or "sealed" entry without revealing details, and the clerk may strip access to the full event after a court order.
Missing or Restricted Dockets
Some Genesee County dockets are not public. Juvenile delinquency dockets are restricted under MCL 712A.28. Adoption dockets are confidential under MCL 710.67. Mental-health treatment matters are protected under MCL 330.1748. Set-aside cases under MCL 780.621 remove the docket from public criminal history. Sealed cases under MCR 8.119(I) require a judge's order before the docket disappears or is restricted.
67th District Court records filed before July 31, 2014 also fall outside MiCOURT under Michigan's Automatic Clean Slate framework. The court publishes a written request form for those older dockets, with email, in-person, and mail submission options at 630 South Saginaw Street, Flint, MI 48502.
Judge Schedules and Hearing Types in Genesee County
The 7th Circuit Court schedule page links every sitting judge to their courtroom calendar. The District Court does the same through the 67th District Court site for each location, including the Flint Fifth Division, the Burton division, the Davison division, the Fenton division, the Flushing division, the Grand Blanc division, and the Mt. Morris division. Each judge holds different docket types on different days. A judge may run a felony docket on Monday and Tuesday, a sentencing docket on Wednesday, and a motion docket on Thursday.
Common hearing types on Genesee County dockets include arraignment, pretrial conference, motion hearing, preliminary examination in District Court, status conference, settlement conference, bench trial, jury trial, and sentencing. Family-division dockets add custody hearings, referee hearings, and PPO hearings. Probate dockets add petition hearings, accounting hearings, and protective-order hearings. A clerk's docket call at the start of a session tells the courtroom which cases will be heard that morning and in what order.
Note: A scheduled docket entry shifts when a party files a motion to adjourn; the new date appears in the Register of Actions once the clerk logs the order.
